Follow your success path, not someone else’s by Amos Johnson Jr, PhD, July 20, 2012
An interesting thing happened when I was reading about the new yahoo CEO - I was starting to feel jealous. She is only 2 years younger than me, but is worth 300 million dollars and her new job is going to pay her about 70 million over the next five years.
I told my wife, I made the wrong choice in life. Instead of being an entrepreneur or getting my PhD, I should have tried to become a CEO of a major company. Then she said to me, “at what cost?”.
When she said that, it snapped me be back to reality and I realized that I was about to fall into the trap of the love of money. I was about to rearrange my life just for money, instead of following what God had called me to do.
Being a CEO of a major company is a great goal, but it wasn’t the goal God set for me. When you see the success of others, don’t be like me and let their success pull you off your unique God-given path. Stay focus on what God has called you to do because that’s where your blessing (and wealth) is.
